FIGHT BACK AGAINST IMPROPER USE OF CREDIT REPORT INFORMATION
Anyone that has borrowed money on a credit card, for a home, to buy a car, or to help pay for school knows that your credit score is important. Your credit can even affect the jobs you are able to get. The Fair Credit Reporting Act is the federal legislation that regulates the collection of credit information and who has the right to access your credit file.
Know Your Rights
The FCRA also protects the privacy of your credit information by regulating who can receive your report and limiting what can be done with your credit information. As a consumer, it is important to know your rights protected by the FCRA, such as:
Access to your credit file is limited. Consumer reporting agencies may only give your information to agencies or people listed under the FCRA.
Check for unauthorized users on your file. Merchants and Creditors cannot review your credit unless you have applied for credit to buy their product.
Employers cannot receive your credit report without your agreement.
You have the right to dispute any incomplete or inaccurate information in your file, and the agency must investigate your dispute.
Consumer reporting agencies must correct or delete any outdated, inaccurate, or incomplete information in your file.
You have the right to know what is in your credit file. At any time, you may request all of your credit information from a consumer-reporting agency.
At Sturycz Law Group, we aggressively work on behalf of clients who have been harmed by FCRA violations, such as improper use of credit information.
